Welcome to the East Asian Games 2026
Dear families, dear students, dear friends of DSS,
We are delighted to invite you and your children to the 8th East Asian Games! The German School Shanghai has the great honor of hosting this special event from Monday, April 13 to Sunday, April 19, 2026.
A week full of athletic excitement, friendships, and unforgettable experiences awaits us all!
Who participates in the games?
We are expecting young athletes from grades 5 to 11 from German Schools in
Hong Kong, Beijing, Seoul, Tokyo, Shenyang, Taipei as well as from the Lycée Français.
Each school is sending us a team of 10 boys and 10 girls – which means we will be welcoming a total of 140 young athletes!
To make this wonderful week an unforgettable experience for everyone, we are looking for host families for a total of 120 children. Additionally, we would also be delighted to find host families for some athletes from Yangpu who will be competing for our DSS team.
What happens during the East Asian Games?
Your children can look forward to exciting competitions in team sports Basketball, Football and
Volleyball. Additionally, competitions will take place in individual sports Athletics, Swimming (on Wednesday in
Yangpu) and Gymnastics.
All competitions are planned to fit perfectly into the DSS school day (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM), so your children can spend the week in a familiar environment.
Weekly Schedule
- Welcome: Meet and Greet with host parents
- Gymnastics, Football, Basketball
- End 4:45 PM (School bus)
- Dinner with host family
- Bus ride to swimming competitions in Yangpu
- afterwards excursion and dinner at the Bund
- Athletics Day
- End 4:45 PM (School bus)
- Dinner with host family
- Gymnastics, Football, Basketball
- End 4:45 PM (School bus)
- Dinner with host family
- Volleyball
- Children must be brought to DSS
- Departure in the morning
- The respective team buses depart from DSS
- Children are back at DSS around 9:00 PM and must be picked up
- Dinner with host family
- 6:00 PM, Closing Ceremony
- Host parents are invited to barbecue
- to the airport
